Welcome to The Garage Music Venue!

The Garage opened at the end of 2008, as a live music and events venue in Uplands, Swansea. Whether it has been bands, DJ’s or comedians we have seen a rich variety of acts come through our doors to show audiences what they’ve got.

We don’t do gimmicks, and we don’t charge a fortune. The Garage works on one main principle: simplicity. We have an excellent sound system, friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere - no matter how big the parties can get!

The venue is now available for hire at very reasonable rates if you want to put on a show. Just get in touch! We can also tailor an event for you if needed.

But first and foremost we are here to entertain. Many thanks go out to our customers, bands, DJ’s and acts. We are very proud to be part of Swansea’s thriving music and arts culture, and you make that possible!

South Wales Heavy Metal Community are proud to present Wrathchild @ The Garage this February!

Wrathchild was formed in 1980 in Evesham, England by Marc Angel and Phil "Wrathchild" Vokins. They recruited Rocky Shades for lead vocals, and Brian "Thunderburst" Parry on drums. Phil Vokins left in 1981 to join Bill Ward (Black Sabbath)in America with a new band Max Havoc and Brian Parry left and returned to his hometown of Chester.

The band soon added two members from the band Medusa; guitarist Lance Rocket and drummer Eddie Star who became mainstays in the band and completed the much recognised over the top lineup for a decade of touring and recording.

After releasing a string of demos, such as Mascara Massacre in 1982, the band was offered a record deal by Bullet Records. On this label the group put out their first official release in 1983, an EP called Stackheel Strutt.

In 1984, the band recorded and released their debut studio album, Stakk Attakk. It would spawn two singles; a cover version of the Gary Glitter classic "Doing Alright with the Boys" and "Trash Queen".

Unfortunately, just as Wrathchild was garnering success, they came embroiled in contractual problems with their label, Heavy Metal Records. RCA Records, a major label, unsuccessfully attempted to sign the band from Heavy Metal Records in an effort to free them from their contract. Meanwhile, the group released a video compilation in called War Machine in 1984.

After finally settling the dispute with Heavy Metal Records nearly four years later, the band released their second album, The Biz Suxx, in 1988. The album spawned a single, Nukklear Rokket, which had a promotional video that was produced by Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden. Bruce plays the protester in the video whilst the performance was filmed in the car park at his home in Chiswick. Ron Kennedy directed and edited the video as well as appearing as the mad professor. Steve Prior was the cameraman.

The band's third and final studio album, Delirium, was released shortly after in 1989. It featured Grim Reaper's Steve Grimmet on backing vocals. Soon after the release Rocky Shades left to join the punk band Discharge and with the onset of grunge, Wrathchild broke up.

In 2005 Marc Angel and Eddie Star got back together along with original guitarist Phil 'Wrathchild' Vokins and recruited vocalist Gaz 'Psychowrath' Harris, formerly of the band Beyond Recognition. This new line-up went under the name Psychowrath until 2009, then acquired the trademarks for Wrathchild & Wrathchild UK and reverted to using their original name Wrathchild. They have played several gigs between 2005 and 2009.

Definitley one of the events of the summer...the worlds great ska bands The Slackers make their Swansea debut!

Here's the Line-up.

THE SLACKERS (USA)
... Much loved throughout the world. The Slackers are probably the world No.1 traditional ska band. Hailing from New York City, and now into their 21st year, they have deservedly gained themselves a worldwide cult following.
With numerous world tours under their belts, this legendary band have played at all the great festivals including Glastonbury, Montreal Jazz Festival and the Warped Tour, as well as opening up for Jimmy Cliff, Toots And The Maytals, Joe Strummer & Rancid.

JAYA THE CAT (NETHERLANDS)
Originating from Boston and currently based in Amsterdam, Jaya the Cat play an uncompromising and original mix of reggae, punk rock and ska music. Since their move to Amsterdam in 2004 the band has continued to grow. The band have been playing hundreds of live shows to an ever expanding audience as well as adding keyboards, samples, percussion and occasionally even a tiki bar to their onstage act. An average Jaya the Cat concert usually becomes more of a party than a performance with the audience singing, dancing and drinking right along with the band.

MIACCA (UK)
Recognised as one of the UK's best up coming bands on the ska scene today. After a brilliant 2011 recieving rave reviews from their debut E.P."With Love And Anger" and being included in the Do The Dog compilation album "UK Ska Vol 4". 2012 promises to be an even better year.

DJ SKANKIN' DRAGON
Spinning all the finest tunes from all genres of Ska.
